  • Antidepressant medications: Serzone any one

I have read the previous posts and find I am in good company. My wife is trying to understand, like those who have posted, mine is jus putting up with it until I "get over it". I started on Serzone two weeks ago and feel some better, not any side effects that I have noticed. I find that most people, my wife included, see depression as just a "bad mood" that will change if I would only try. Not very comforting.

I'm glad to read that I am not alone.

A: Hello, pdwalker, yes you've come to the right place!

Is this your first time on medication? Are you a long time sufferer?

A: welcome, Dan. I just posted in another Yahoo club that discusses depression how grateful I am for the knowledge and support I find in the 2 clubs, especially the support; at least in that regard I know how you feel.

    Absolutely, you are not alone!

I'm glad that you're not noticing side-effects, they can be a real b**ch [I'm not being quite that lucky with Effexor....]; since I last posted here, I've moved from the Effexor SR capsules to the Effexor tablets, and I feel better able to handle things, am more alert [except when the day winds down and I start to fall asleep before I really want to], and I think my mood and attitude are better, too.

    best wishes,

    Rick

A: I think a lot of the misunderstanding of depression has to do with leftover stigmas to mental illness. We're either making up these symptoms or we're crazy. Like with any other debilitating illness, the sufferer needs support from those around him. People don't
seem to understand that we don't WANT to be this way, we want to be happy and productive like everyone else. They don't understand the pain involved because it isn't physical pain, but something much deeper. I call depression "cancer of the soul" because it destroys a person's very being. Also, there is not a lot of media attention given to depression. While AIDS and other diseases get front row seats to the public, depression (which affects many more people) is still kept at a safe distance as if people who learn about it could catch it.

A: Hi Rick: I also found the Effexor SR did not work and I've been on the tablets for a long time now. They work much better. I don't know what it is about the SR, but it just doesn't work well at all. I find my most lethargic time of day is morning. I have a hard time getting started. Caffeine usually helps get me going and once I'm over that hump I'm OK for the rest of the day and evening.

    A: Thanks Rick and Cerulean,

I appreciate the replys it helps to know that others are out there and really understand. Hang in there, one day, and sometimes one minute, at a time.
